One of the best ways to experience Kenya is by going on a climbing safari. Although Kenya is widely known as a wildlife destination with several national parks and beautiful marine parks, it is possible to do a climbing safari in Kenya. Mount Kenya is the highest Mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa after Mount Kilimanjaro, which offers the best alternative for mountaineers. Climbing Mount Kenya is relatively challenging; however, with an experienced company like us, it is almost impossible not to reach the summit. We have experienced success with our clients, and we are waiting for you to be added unto this long list of our Mount Kenya climbing clients.

Itinerary

Day 1Nairobi to Old Moses Camp

Early in the morning after breakfast, you shall be picked by our friendly guide to Nanyuki town. Lunch shall be served at one of the wonderful eating points in the town. Later you shall proceed to the Sirimon gate; this is the point where you shall meet the porters, cooks, the mountain guides who shall aide you to reach the summit. You shall follow the normal park entrance procedures and later, you shall hike for about 3-4 hours through the thick rainforest until Old Moses Camp at an altitude of 3300m. Upon arrival, the cook will prepare your dinner and the tent shall be raised for you by the porter.

Day 2Old Moses Camp- Liki North Camp Altitude: 3900m, distance: 10km

After breakfast, you shall continue your hike to Liki North camp at an altitude of 3900m. This is generally a short hike and it is basically meant for acclimatization.  You shall spend the night at Liki North Camp.

Day 3Liki North camp – Shipton camp Altitude: 4200m Distance: 4km

Shipton Camp is normally the last destination before attempting the summit of Point Lenana. This is another relaxing day, and you won’t have to walk long distances. There are higher chances of reaching the summit because of the acclimatization that is involved during this journey. Normally, the body needs to rest and regain the needed energy to take on the climbing challenge. This is when taking short hikes like this is necessary. Upon arrival at Shipton Camp, you shall rest and plan for the summit hike the following day.

Day 4Shipton camp to point Lenana and then Met station.

During this day, you shall wake up early in the morning at around 3am and try to reach the summit. After walking for about 3 hours, you shall reach the summit, point Lenana at 4985m. You will jubilate and take all the necessary photos, enjoy the unforgettable views and later after sunrise, you shall start to descend to Met station. This is probably the most challenging day during the safari. Upon arrival at the met station, you shall have dinner and rest.

Day 5Met station-Naro moru Gate-Nairobi.

Early in the morning, you shall descend to the park gate of Naro Moru and later, you shall say bye to your climbing crew of mountain guides, cooks and porters and drive off to Nairobi to mark the end of this journey.
